Welcome
Welcome to my blog.
After a 5-year hiatus, I've started writing again. I felt that there was still a lot for me to learn before I picked up the pen again, and I also needed to get my head in the right place. However, I found that writing is not something a person can stop doing, or stop thinking about, no matter how hard you try.
In an effort to create a space where I can continue to get my thoughts out, no matter how unmitigated they are and no matter how little curation occurs when I post something, I am creating this site. I will update when I have work to share. My work might be things that I wrote for this blog, exercises in writing that I won't send out to publications, or other pieces that I don't quite feel like editing and they're not being accepted elsewhere.
I am going to start this blog off with a selection of pieces I decided to write (specifically for this blog) in honor of Black History Month. I was sitting at a meeting when I realized that this was the first day of Black History month. After scouring Twitter to see how people were celebrating, I saw a Tweet about misconceptions people have about BHM. It made me think about how I can be more intentional in how I celebrate this month. The best thing I could think of was creating a group of essays that address my privilege, especially as it relates to living in West Michigan. You will see my first post arriving shortly. Until then, thanks for visiting.
